The Michigan GI Society was founded to provide a forum for Michigan Gastroenterologists and other health care providers engaged in the treatment of digestive diseases to interact professionally and socially for mutual benefit.

It was formed in 2000 when the Detroit GI society and the Michigan Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy merged to form a unified organization.
